How to Design the Perfect Home Office
Are you thinking about a startup business venture? You may want to consider working from home. Working from home will save you a lot of time and money but it is important to have the proper environment setup. This will help you be as time efficient as possible. Perhaps you have just been finding yourself bringing a lot of your work home with you lately. In that case, you will need a private office somewhere in your house. They are easy to design.
First, you need to pick where your office is going to be. It is advisable not to pick a room near or above noisy areas like the kitchen or living room. If you have a home entertainment system pick somewhere as far away from that as possible. You could consider soundproofing, but this will take a lot of time and effort.
Once you have selected your room, clean it out. Take out everything that you will not need like ornaments and unwanted furniture. Put all that somewhere else. You need a comfortable chair, a desk and a computer. You may also want to buy something to keep files neat and tidy like some grey linbins. This is a cheap way of ensuring your workspace does not look a mess.
Now you need to look at some technology. If you are running a home business you will need to invest in the latest tech and software. Do not settle for an old out of date computer. Instead buy one of the newest models on the market that is the best value for money. You may also want to install a phone connection if the room does not have one. It may also be a good idea to put your internet server in this room. That way you will get the fastest connection. If your internet provider is not fast, you should consider upgrading. Once you have bought the tech look at the software. There are free alternatives for many of the programmes you will need. For example, instead of buying Microsoft word use Google docs.
Now you have got the space, the tech and a neat, tidy work environment. But you are not finished yet. You need to add a little home comfort. Not too much of course. But a family picture and your favourite coffee cup would not go amiss. Try not to fill the room with clutter though. You have just spent several hours making it a place for work. Do not ruin that by making it just another room in the house filled with toys and Blu-rays.
There is one more thing you must do. This is not something you can purchase or buy. It is not a material object. It is a state of mind. If you are working from home, it is easy to forget that you are at work. You will find yourself wandering away to check what is on tv or doing chores around the house. Other family members may not realise you are busy. They will ask you for things, but you must maintain a professional schedule. Set deadlines and do not get distracted. Try to think of it like any other day in the office and you will get a lot more done.
